bought my first a while back when i moved. i have and will forever be a huge fan of Janome. Re: Big problems with Husqvarna Viking Sewing/Embroidery machines Just wanted to warn you gals that might be shopping for machines. I've filed with the BBB to try and rectify this. My dealer is pretty bad and refused to offer a loaner machine or a replacement. The machine was less than a year old when the tension problems began and just over a year old when the tension assembly stopped working altogether. My Viking Topaz 20 has been in the shop since December 8th waiting on a new tension assembly (this was the fourth time it went to the shop for a thread tension problem). Something is going on with Husqvarna Viking's manufacturing process that has caused all parts for repair to be on backorder until end of February 2013. Other owners report their machines breaking and needing replacement parts but the parts being on backorder for months. Since then I've been following other owners on both of Husqvarna Viking's FB pages. I'd love to say go ahead and buy this beautiful machine at that awesome price but in reality I'd have to be honest and say that if it isn't already equipped with the embroidery unit, Reader/Writer unit and spare d-cards then you'd be better off getting a different machine.Last week I wrote this post on my blog: Why I will never again purchase or recommend Husqvarna Viking Sewing Machines I have an excellent mechanic who has worked on Husqvarna machines for 40 years and has no problems working on my old machine but you'd need the assurance and promise of a real mechanic that this machine could be serviced before buying it. I definitely get the feeling of being thoroughly dumped by this large and greedy corporation. There is no help from Husqvarna for these machines any more since it is so old and Husqvarna are interested only in selling the latest more up-to-the-minute machines. knowing what I know now and if I wanted it especially for embroidery I would have to leave this one alone. If the machine you are being offered is equipped with the embroidery unit and software, as well as a Reader/Writer unit and perhaps a spare personal d-card then $1500 is a good price. None of mine have ever broken but there are plenty of reports of d-cards giving a great deal of trouble. My machine came with an extra 'gift' of a new d-card with flower designs on it. I use only my personal d-cards.Įverything about the Husqvarna machines is very expensive. All of my embroidery machine equipment works perfectly but I don't think I could replace any of it now. It needs an embroidery unit which slides onto the machine, bought separately, and uses d-cards which have built-in designs or are blank 'personal' cards and can be loaded with your own designs via the computer and a Reader/Writer Unit, also both bought separately. However, if you want this machine for embroidery you'd be well advised to look further. It sews, embroiders and quilts to perfection. It's a beautiful machine, a real workhorse, is a dream to use and sews just about anything and I hope mine lasts a very long time. I believe this machine is now discontinued. I've had my HVDII for six years and it was second hand then.
